CHA 040 - Beginning Literacy for Special Learners

This course is designed to provide individualized skills enhancement in the areas ofreading, writing, and math skills for adults with learning challenges utilizing materials encountered in everyday independent living. Topics to be covered include reading comprehension, consumer reading skills, related mathematics, forms, letter writing, electronic correspondence, and news article and correspondence.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. demonstrate an understanding of reading comprehension,
2. develop consumer reading skills and related mathematics,
3. demonstrate an understanding of forms and applications,
4. use letter writing and electronic correspondence,
5. identify the main idea in a news article or correspondence, and
6. identify the supporting details in a news article or correspondence.
