SBA 036 - Starting Your Own Food Truck Business


0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to assist the student, who in an entrepreneur, to develop strategies to start a food truck business in Maryland. The student will learn the pros and cons of operating a food truck business. Topics to be covered include steps to develop a concept for their food truck business, conducting market research, menu planning and service style, cost of goods sold, expenses and breakeven analysis, layout/ design, marketing and branding, HACCP plan basics, and licensing, permitting, and insurance needs.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. identify the major business considerations in forming a food truck business in Maryland;
2. review the pros and cons of going into business;
3.discuss guidelines for legally operating a food truck;
4. describe how to set menu prices and break even points; and
5. develop steps for starting service, including marketing and scheduling of events.
