HSL 123 - Supervisory Skills for the Hospitality Industry 1 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This continuing education course is designed to allow the student to develop basic supervisory skills applicable to the hospitality industry, through a series of nine modules. Upon successful completion of this course and exam, students earn the Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute. Topics to be covered include: effective communication, conducting orientation and training, staffing and scheduling, handling problems and conflict, team building, and time management.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. demonstrate effective communication;
2. conduct orientation, training, staffing and scheduling;
3. explain how to improve employee performance;
4. explain the supervisor’s responsibilities to upper management and employees;
5. describe how to solve the problems and challenges at hotels; and
6. discuss motivation, team building, leadership, and time management.
