MGT 946 - LEAD TO SUCCEED: SUPERVISORY BASIC TRAINING XX Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
Course Objectives:
This continuing education course is designed to provide new managers or supervisors, or those preparing for this position, with core knowledge and skills to effectively supervise others. Topics to be covered include: basic concepts of leading and managing, DiSC assessment and application, emotional intelligence, time management, goal setting, delegation, legal considerations, interpersonal communication, performance management and coaching, change management, and action planning.
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. explain basic concepts of managing and leading and differences between the two,
2. perform a self-assessment of management skills and behaviors,
3. describe how DiSC influences decision making,
4. explain the key components of emotional i ntelligence,
5. identify keys skills for time management,
6. write SMART goals,
7. demonstrate how to use the DESC model to practice assertiveness and clarify issues and concerns,
8. explain how coaching can be used for performance improvement and development,
9. explain how to apply change management processes to influence meaningful change, and
10. create an action plan.
