This course is designed to enable the student to gain an introduction into controlling and improving quality in a manufacturing setting. Students explore ways that manufacturers use data and analysis to improve quality. Topics to be covered include blueprint reading, basic measurement, precision measurement tools, dimensional gauging, quality systems, quality improvement, control charts, continuous improvement, quality inspections, quality audits, preventative and corrective actions, and verification and documentation.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Debate on periodic internal quality audit activities,
2. demonstrate the ability to check calibration of gages and other data collection equipment inspect materials and product/process at all stages to ensure they meet specifications,
3. identify the results of quality tests, define quality problems, demonstrate the ability to take corrective actions to restore or maintain quality,
4. record process outcomes and trends, demonstrate the ability to read a blueprint, and
5. use common measurement systems and precision measurement tools.
