This course is designed to enable the student to gain an introduction into the basics of how manufacturing transforms materials into products. Students will learn about varying types of production, the materials that are used in production, and the types of processes used in manufacturing. Topics to be covered include customer contact, creating products, types of production, production materials, production processes, machining processes, machine operations, production planning and workflow, production control, and documenting the process.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. identify customer needs,
2. determine resources available for the production process,
3. set up equipment for the production process,
4. set team production goals,
5. coordinate work flow with team members and other work groups,
6. communicate production and material requirements and product specifications,
7. perform and monitor the process to make the product,
8. identify product and process compliance with customer requirements, and
9. prepare final product for shipping or distribution.
