This course is designed to enable the student to learn the responsibilities and tasks required for an entry level computer service technician to successfully perform in a customer-based environment. This is the first of a three-course series to prepare students for the CompTIA A+ certification exams. Topics to be covered include the fundamentals of microcomputer operating systems, broad concepts, and diagnostic tools that allow the student to rapidly determine the condition of a PC system and how best to rectify a fault; and an introduction to hardware, how hardware and software work together, understanding the boot process and command line, the motherboard, managing memory, understanding and supporting windows, and troubleshooting and maintenance fundamentals.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. identify different internal and external components of a microcomputer,
2. identify how hardware and software work together,
3. discuss the different types of physical memory housed on the system board,
4. describe various troubleshooting methods,
5. identify the procedures for installing Windows operating systems,
6. identify steps to perform an operating system upgrade, and
7. identify the purpose of various types of preventative maintenance products and procedures and when to use them. Note: 5 CEUs
