PCO 283 - Google IT Support Professional 10 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This course is designed to enable the student to prepare for a role as an entry-level IT Support Specialist. Students learn the fundamentals of IT support that are critical for success in the workplace – like troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, and security. Topics to be covered include: technical support fundamentals, bits and bytes of computer networking, operating systems, becoming a power user, system administration, IT infrastructure services, and IT security.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- assemble a computer from scratch and install an operating system;
- define what the internet is, how it works, and the impact it has in the modern world;
- describe computer networks in terms of a five-layer model;
- discuss cloud computing and cloud storage;
- demonstrate the ability to navigate the Windows and Linux filesystems;
- set up users, groups, and permissions for account access;
- install, configure, and remove software on the Windows and Linux operating systems;
- utilize operating system knowledge to troubleshoot common issues in an IT Support Specialist role;
- demonstrate the ability to backup data and know how to recover IT infrastructure in the case of a disaster;
- evaluate potential risks and recommend ways to reduce risk; and
- discuss best practices for securing a network.
