MGT 853 - Core Skills for the Administrative Professional


5.8 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable students to achieve mastery in the core skills necessary for administrative roles in business settings. This course will cover communications skills, task and document management, project management, digital technology and scheduling and events management skills.  Upon the completion of the course, students can earn a Professional Administrative Certificate of Excellence (PACE) certification from the which was developed and is authorized by the American Society of Administrative Professionals (ASAP). Topics to be covered includes: Time management and handling travel plans, emails and workspace, overview of Microsoft Office, Teamwork and Team Dynamic.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. describe the elements of effective communication;
2. discuss strategies to successfully work with others and resolve conflicts;
3. identify methods for organizing tasks and time management;
4. utilize calendars to manage scheduling of events and meetings;
5. describe methods to handle travel planning and expense reports;
6. describe the steps required to create and edit different types of business documents;
7. demonstrate knowledge of file retention, retrieval and maintenance;
8. recognize the varying methods of information distribution in a work setting;
9. explore online business productivity tools; and
10. define the principles of cybersecurity.
