MGT 852 - Planning and Advancing Your Career


1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the participant to assess and improve a variety of self-management skills and to develop strategies to aid in a successful job search. Topics to be covered include resume development, effective interview techniques, identifying and improving soft skills, and other skills necessary for obtaining and keeping a job.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. identify and assess his/her interpersonal skills through self-assessment activities;
2. discuss strategies for handling difficult workplace situations;
3. explain critical thinking skills for workplace success, such as problem solving, organization, and time management;
4. explain the importance of teamwork, and collaboration, and diversity in the workplace;
5. demonstrate using effective job search skills, including the creation of a LinkedIn profile;
6. develop a well-written resume and cover letter to be used during employment searches; and
7. apply strategies for successful interviews during mock interviews.
