HUMS 139 - Interviewing and Counseling Techniques 3 Credit(s).
Distinguish between interviewing, counseling, and psychotherapy; demonstrate communication skills that enhance the exchange of information between the interviewer and the subject; interpret messages exchanged in verbal and nonverbal communication; identify ingredients of a helping relationship; describe barriers that prevent the accurate exchange of information; discuss planning strategies for successful interviewing; determine and evaluate outcome goals for intervention; define treatment theories currently available to community workers; analyze planning and implementation; and demonstrate competence in multiculturally-sensitive basic interviewing skills. NOTE: Course offered fall, spring, and may be offered during additional sessions.
