Travel Agent Training

Program Description


The Travel Agent online training program will teach you all you need to know to start a travel career. You will learn about the airline industry, ground transportation, hotels and resorts, cruises, tours, international and domestic travel, reservations and pricing, specialty travel, and more. This program is for you if you want to enhance your travel industry knowledge or jump-start your career in the travel industry.

​This online program consists of two modules. The first module is designed to enable the student to learn to start a travel career and about the basic and destination geography that a travel agent is most likely to recommend and sell to their clients. Topics to be covered include the introduction to travel industry, professional skills, basic geography, and destination geography. In the second module, you will learn to start a travel career and about domestic and international travel destinations. Topics to be covered include travel industry, including airline, ground transportation, hotels and resorts, cruises, tours, specialty travel, and more.

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this Continuing Education Workforce Certificate, students will be able to:

  1. function effectively as a travel agent in tourism industry,
  2. describe the professional skills and knowledge for domestic and international travel planning,
  3. meet the eligibility requirements for the Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) test offered by the Travel Institute (formerly ICTA), and
  4. prepare to gain employment as a travel agent in the tourism industry.​

Program Credentials


CCBC Credential: Students will be awarded a Continuing Education Workforce Certificate and have access to a Continuing Education academic record (transcript).

External Credential: Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) Certification

Certifying Organization: Travel Institute (formerly ICTA)

Financial Aid and Payment Options


CCBC currently offers Continuing Education (CE) financial aid to those who qualify. We package public and private funding options to benefit students which include COVID-19 relief funding, the Maryland Sequence Scholarship, CCBC Opportunity Grant funding, Maryland Promise, and Baltimore County College Promise. Financial aid funding is available for select CE courses and programs. 

Additional opportunities for financial support include partial payment options through Nelnet Business Solutions and tuition waivers for those who qualify. Resources outside of CCBC may also be available through employer/sponsor paid tuition,  the Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), and your local office of workforce development.

Program Length


Students may work up to six months to complete the online course work (approximately 100 hours).

Computer Requirements:

  • ​Online program can be taken on either a Mac or a PC
  • Internet connection and email capability
  • Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Program is compatible with the Windows XP and later operating systems, and IE 7 and later browsers

 

Application Process


To apply, go to www.ccbcmd.edu/apply and complete the CCBC Continuing Education Workforce Certificate program application.  An email will then be sent with program information and any additional requirements necessary to apply for the program.

Open Entry – No screening or documentation required.

Additional Information


Skills for Success:

Organizational skills, excellent customer service skills and telephone manner, strong communication and sales skills, and since this course is delivered completely online, students need to have the self-discipline to complete all required material on their own.  A course instructor will be available to assist students with questions and to lead online activities during the course of the class.
