This is a suggested full-time schedule for a student who has completed any developmental course work and has no transfer credits. Refer to the College catalog for specific requirements in selecting General Education Courses .

Program Requirements and Electives - 42 Credits
Take all of the following Computer Science/Information Technology (CSIT) classes, one of the two Data Communications (DCOM) classes, and one English or Management class. Check with transfer institution for English and Management requirements.
Choose any 12 credits of computer course electives (CSIT or DCOM) to best suit your work or transfer requirements or choose recommended electives grouped below the Course List to develop database, programming, or web development skills.
Total Number of Credits Required for Degree: 60*
*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.
The Information Technology degree program is designed to provide students with the technical skills required for entry-level employment and the course work necessary to transfer to a four-year institution. Students may select technology electives to best suit their work or transfer needs. See the program coordinators for information on transfer agreements and internships.
Most of the courses can be taken online as well as in the classroom.
Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:
- demonstrate the following core competencies: communication global perspective/social responsibility, independent learning/personal management, and problem solving skills by incorporating the core competency project in all capstone courses and an abbreviated version of the core competency project in all general education courses;
- transfer to a four-year institution for a degree in Information Technology and other related fields through articulation agreements with six (6) four-year colleges in the Maryland area and/or qualify for employment through internship opportunities available for graduating students;
- demonstrate the technical skills in programming, database, and web technology required for entry-level employment in the field of information technology and other related areas; and
- employ a broad knowledge of application software skills, technical skills, and information technology topics which are data communications principles, information security principles, object oriented design and application development using at least two programming languages, LINUX/UNIX operating system, relational database design and management, Structured Query Language, and business principles/methodologies.
