Associate of Fine Arts in Fine and Performing Arts (A.F.A.)


General Education Requirements and Electives for AFA Transfer Patterns - 24-26 Credits


Follow this General Education sequence for the following transfer patterns: Art, Design, and Interactive Media; Dance; Music; and Theatre.

Requirements


CMNS 101 is required for an A.F.A. in Dance, Music, and Theatre, but not for Art, Design, and Interactive Media.

Electives


Choose courses in each category using the information below and from the list of approved General Education courses . Consult your Program of Study page for more specific guidance on general education classes.

One course must be a Diversity course. Diversity courses are indicated with an asterisk (*).

Note that Dance, Music, and Theatre require students to take CMNS 101 as part of the Arts and Humanities requirement, while Art, Design, and Interactive Media students may choose any two 3-credit classes. Dance, Music, and Theatre students may take 3-4 credits in Mathematics; Art, Design, and Interactive Media students are only required to take 3 credits.

  • Arts and Humanities (CMNS 101  required for Dance, Music, and Theatre) 3-6 Credits.
  • Biological and Physical Sciences 3-4 Credits.
  • Information Technology 3 Credits.
  • Mathematics 3-4 Credits.
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences 3 Credits.

This page lists the General Education requirements for the Associate of Fine Arts in Fine and Performing Arts (A.F.A.) transfer degree. This degree requires a minimum of 24-25 credits of General Education from the categories listed above. Students should contact an academic advisor for possible additional courses.

Students must successfully complete appropriate developmental prerequisites, in addition to other specified prerequisites, before enrolling in any course that fulfills a General Education requirement. Students who intend to transfer to a four-year institution should contact an academic advisor for assistance in choosing General Education courses and program electives.
