This is a selective admissions program.

Semester Sequence

 The schedule below reflects the suggested full-time sequence for students prior to selective admissions and upon acceptance into the program.

*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed college coursework at other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101  in the first semester at CCBC. This is a 1-credit class, and it does not count towards the number of credits required for a degree or certificate. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) for this requirement to be waived.


Program Description

Radiation Therapy utilizes radiation and radioactive isotopes in the treatment of disease, primarily cancer.  The Radiation Therapist provides services for treatment of malignant and non-malignant disease.  The Radiation Therapist is responsible for localizing the tumor, implementing the treatment plan, observing and evaluating clinical progress of the patient.

School of Health Professions Policies

Students in the School of Health Professions are expected to conduct themselves according to an honor code; exhibit professional behavior; communicate effectively in English; provide proof of health insurance, immunizations, and a tuberculosis (TB) test; and submit to a criminal background check and random drug testing. Students are expected to pay the costs associated with these requirements.


Although the Community College of Baltimore County has an open door policy for admissions, the Radiation Therapy Program is a selective admissions program and is highly competitive.  Admission to the School of Health Professions programs is competitive and selective and is based on published criteria.  For program information please go to the School of Health Professions website.

In order to apply, you must complete a selective admissions application by February 1 for the fall session you intend to enter the A.A.S. degree program.  The first step is to apply for admission to CCBC if you have not done so already.  The link to the CAS and the application instructions are located in the program admissions packet in the School of Health Professions website.

You will need a CCBC student ID number and a CCBC student account password to complete the application.  If you have questions about the CCBC CAS process, contact the School of Health Professions Admissions Office at 443-840-1989 or read the FAQ selections at the bottom of each page inside the CAS application.

Enrollment in this program is limited by the availability of clinical education facilities.  The academic credentials of the most competitive candidates include a minimum of 2.5 overall GPA and the completion of BIOL 109, PHYS 101, MATH 135, and RTTT 101 with a grade of “C” or better.  These courses must be completed prior to the application deadline of February 1.  Students meeting these criteria will be invited for an interview with the program officials and/or representatives.  The competitiveness of admissions depends on the overall pool of applicants.

Students must be at least 18 years of age before entering RTTT 111.  Radiation Therapy students must achieve a minimum of a “C” grade in Radiation Therapy and related courses to continue in this program.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate competency in the following clinical skills: patient care, simulation, radiation treatment procedure, and treatment planning;
  2. analyze diverse types of information, including port and simulation films, in order to choose an appropriate course of action as a Radiation Therapist;
  3. apply effective verbal and written skills to resolve barriers, communicate with patients, and to present information to peers; and
  4. demonstrate professional behavior in the clinical setting, including accepting responsibility for actions and utilizing constructive criticism.
