Labor Studies Certificate

Total Number of Credits Required for Certificate: 21*


*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the certificate to 22 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  1. assess a collective bargaining agreement and strategies for negotiations;
  2. judge a workplace problem and create a grievance;
  3. understand labor history and its impact on current movements; 
  4. evaluate current political and historical strategies for unions; and
  5. appreciate the culture of the labor movement, including movies and literature.

Program Description:


Recognizing that an interest exists for specific training in the skills of the Labor Studies program, a certificate in Labor Studies is offered. This program is designed for union officers, members, and staff.

Each of the above certificates includes four courses (12 credits) that are part of the Labor Studies degree.
