AHL 213 - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support


1.2 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and for personnel in emergency response. Topics to be covered include building on the foundation of lifesaving basic life support skills (BLS) and emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome; 2. demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating AED use; 3. identify other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death; and 4. communicate effectively as a member and leader of a resuscitation team.
