AHL 216 - Prehospital Trauma Life Support


1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to teach EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers ways to improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. Topics to be covered include the physiology of life and death; scene assessment; patient assessment; airway assessment; breathing, ventilation, and oxygenation; circulation, hemorrhage and shock; patients with disabilities; and patient simulations.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. identify the mechanism of injury, 2. recognize life-threatening injuries, 3. assess and manage trauma patients, and 4. perform appropriate interventions.
